The Edge 28/04/2017

Wombwell Ings - Present were 17 Greylag, 12 Canada Geese, 1 Pink Footed Goose, 2 Shelduck, 40 Gadwall, 14 Mallard, 10 Wigeon, 9 Tufted Duck, 5 Teal, 3 Shoveler, 1 Cormorant, 1 Little Egret, 1 Peregrine, 1 Sparrowhawk, 7 Coot, 8+ Lapwing, 3 Avocet, 3 Redshank, 2 Common Sandpiper, 22 BH Gull, 1 LBB Gull, 4+ Skylark and 60+ Sand Martin.
Warbler Way - Singing males included 22 Chiffchaff, 13 Willow Warbler, 11 Blackcap, 4 Whitethroat, 3 Sedge Warbler, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat and 1 Grasshopper Warbler. Thanks to radio directions from K.Pickering and a gap cut in the trees by the RSPB, I was able to pick up the two Arctic Terns on the Mere late AM.
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 4 Mute Swan, 12 Canada Geese, 6 Greylag, 11 Pochard, 10 Gadwall, 10 Tufted Duck, 8 Mallard, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Little Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 44+2y Coot, 1 Moorhen and 320+ BH Gull. Also present were 2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel and 1 Song Thrush.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 2 Mute Swan, 25 Canada Geese, 14 Greylag, 2 Shelduck, 18 Tufted Duck, 11 Mallard, 10 Gadwall, 2 Pochard, 1 Teal, 1 Wigeon, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 9 Little Grebe, 2 Sparrowhawk, 1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 13 Coot, 5 Moorhen, 7+ Lapwing, 225+ BH Gull and 5 Herring Gull.
