This is our first record since August 2009. Although we have 50 previous records for the species, this is only the second bird to actually come down to feed. The previous one was way back on 25/4/1993.

Wintersett VIS. MIG. DREAM 29.04.17

A NEW  BIRD FOR THE WINTERSETT LIST.
Ringing was poor this morning for Pete Smith and Jonathan Holliday so they packed up early and headed to the car park,   On the way  back they picked up a Tweet from John Wozencroft alerting birders that Jon O'Malley had reported an immature WHITE-TAILED EAGLE flew  north west from Stainton Quarry near Doncaster at 10.40hrs.
Pete and Jonathan calculated that Wintersett is NW from Stainton so maybe they would be in with a chance of a fly through.  They put on a pace to get to Vis. Mig. Hill at Anglers CP.
Within a few minutes Jonathan had picked up a huge bird flying west over Haw Park Wood.  Pete got on it quickly and  together they confirmed it was the  WHITE-TAILED EAGLE.  They observed it for 5 minutes as it headed west towards the moors. 3 unlucky members of the team were scattered around the area and too far away to get to a viewpoint.
WHITE-TAILED EAGLE is a new, and dreamed of,  bird for the Wintersett List.
Many thanks to John Wozencroft for putting the news out.   Huge congratulations to the finders.
