Edderthorpe Bank Holiday

Loads of wildfowl here over the holiday period, peak counts include;- Greylag Goose 285, Garganey 3 (including 1 drake), Shoveler 215 (the record is 243 on 31st October 2014), Teal 137. However, the shooting season opened today (1st Sept) and it seems the shooters were out this evening so it will be interesting to see how numbers compare in the coming week.
Waders continue to be attracted although in lower numbers after all the recent rain pushed up the water levels and since a juvenile Peregrine has been in daily attendance and terrifying everything. Highlights are, a Little Stint which arrived today and a couple of juvenile Knot which arrived yesterday (Monday) and are still present today. Up to 910 Lapwing, 20 Golden Plover, 5 Ruff, 2 Dunlin, 4 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Ringed Plover, 4 Greenshank and a Common Sandpiper are also present. At least 7 Common Buzzards were flying as the rain ceased yesterday afternoon.
