Edderthorpe -the week

And no, I did not mean weak in the title. It,s been a good but little changing week with most counts the same throughout the week although Little Ringed Plover numbers are dwindling by the day with most of the adults now departed and juveniles remaining. Little Egrets peaked at 17 on Saturday 18th with usually up to 10 most days. A juvenile Shelduck was present on Saturday but not much else duck-wise. An influx of Little Grebes mid week with up to 10 on the Flash, but as usual the waders were the main headline grabbers. Black-tailed Godwits were present a few days with max of 9 on Friday, a single Greenshank most of the week, same a single Redshank and 2 adult Ruff were new in on Friday. The first Dunlin of autumn arrived on Saturday and Lapwings have built up to 252 by this weekend. Green Sandpipers are usually on Houghton Washland with 6 or 7 usually there and 4 Common Sandpipers are around the Flash daily. There are usually around 20 Ringed Plovers on the Flash with a peak of 24 and Little Ringed Plovers peaked at 16 midweek but are down to 8 on Saturday. An adult Mediterranean Gull was present on Wednesday and 250 Swifts were feeding over the area on Saturday.
