Carlton Marsh

Last night's moth session with Chris Parkin (Tuesday 16/6)
It was  a very warm, humid evening perfect for catching moths, but the trees I put sugar-bait on only produced 3 Herald and a Figure of Eighty moth. However, the latter is the first for 20 years. The slugs and millipedes enjoyed feeding on the sugar though.
The Actinic light trap didn't fare much better with just 9 species of macro and 2 species of micro moth. These included Gold Spot, Flame shoulder, Common Swift, Double Square Spot, and Buff Ermine. The best of the bunch being a Small Clouded Brindle, the first since 1997.
3 Noctule Bats were flying before dusk, along with Barn Owl and later Tawny and Long-eared Owl after dark. Male and female Water Rails were also very audible after nightfall.

 Figure of Eighty
 Small Clouded Brindle
Today 17/6
A weasel was present and a record number of 61 Long-tailed Tits were reported flying from one gap in the trees to another! Also of note  a Peregrine NE, Kingfisher 2 and Garden Warbler (Rod Heeley)
