Wintersett Gull Roost - An interesting Gull

Attached is a couple of photos of the gull that caught our attention in the Country Park roost at Wintersett tonight. Its probably what you would expect as an initial view of a possible first winter American Herring Gull, black-tipped pink bill, white head on an otherwise dusky coloured body. Very large and bulky, with a long primary projection. Unfortunately, that was as much as we got as it remained almost motionless as it drifted around at the back of the roost for over an hour until it got too dark to see. Perhaps it will hang around and give us a bit more to go on. The pictures are zoomed to the max and phone scoped, so quality is not too good and a bit over exposed so it looks much paler than it actually was, but it gives a reasonable impression and the bird stood out quite clearly in the large roost, so shouldn't be too difficult to relocate should it hang around.
