Old Moor Nocturnal Report - Thursday 28th August

Main Marsh - Barnacle Goose 1, Wigeon 2, Lapwing c750, Spotted Redshank 2, Green Sandpiper 6, Common Sandpiper 2, Ruff 3, Dunlin 3, Black Tailed Godwit 10, Snipe 7, Common Tern 1, Peregrine 1, Barn Owl 1, Green Woodpecker 1, Chiffchaff 1 singing.

Roost in willows on Willow Pool - Grey Heron 3, Cormorant 19, Little Egret 12.

Tonight the Egrets came in as follows - 1 already in, 1 at 20.06, 1 at 20.08, 1 at 20.20, 2 at 20.22, 2 at 20.24, 2 at 20.27, 1 at 20.29 and finally 1 at 20.43. 8 birds came in from up the valley and 3 birds from down the valley. The total of 12 means the numbers have dropped by more than 50% in less than a week, 26 last Saturday. Of course last night could be a blip and I could have missed some, they are coming in late and fast and easy to miss. 12 is still a great total and it will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of weeks.

The Main Marsh looked fantastic tonight, birds everywhere, ducks and geese flying in/flying out in big numbers plus all the wildfowl and waders on the deck. Long may it continue.
