Old Moor Nocturnal Report - Monday 4th August

Mere - Shelduck 1 juv, Green Sandpiper 2, Common Sandpiper 9, Wood Sandpiper 1, Little Ringed Plover 4, Snipe 1, Peregrine 1, Common Tern 1 adult and 1 juv.

Main Marsh - Mute Swan 20, Wigeon 2, Lapwing 650, Black Tailed Godwit 10, Green Sandpiper 7, Snipe 2, Barn Owl 1, Green Woodpecker 1.

Roost in willows on Willow Pool - Grey Heron 5, Cormorant 12, Little Egret 12, Great White Egret 1.

The Great White Egret was on the Wader Scrape when I arrived and eventually went to roost at about 21.00 after a few failed attempts again.

The Little Egret total was 12 tonight with nearly all the birds coming in from down the valley. Denaby Ings was watched tonight and as suspected the Egrets are also roosting there, 15 were counted at 20.45 last night (per DMW) therefore 27 were in the valley which is about the number we expected. Hopefully more co-ordinated counts can be carried out to assess the number of birds in the valley.
