Last Minute Sarni's

I was just about to leave Old Moor tonight when I heard a Sandwich Tern calling. It called a few more times and I picked it up coming in over the Wader Scrape, it flew around for a while then land briefly with the Common Tern's. It then flew over Mere before returning to the Wader Scrape where it landed on the left hand island next to a second bird. Both birds then flew westwards over the Mere at 19.03.
Other birds in the area tonight included - Mute Swan 28 Main Marsh, 2 + 4 young Wader Scrape, Shelduck 4 + 6 young Wombwell Ings, 1 Wigeon (male) Main Marsh,  1 Black Necked Grebe Mere, 1 'Booming' Bittern Old Moor, 1 Little Egret Main Marsh, 4 Avocet & 1 Black tailed Godwit Wombwell Ings, 1 Polish ringed first summer Med Gull Mere & 5+ Common Tern Wader Scrape.
