Had an early start this morning at 06.30 on WeBS count day. 6c when I set off, cloudy, grey with a strong sometimes very strong northerly. A heavy shower mid morning but then brightened up and temp. up to 12c. The Pink Footed Goose still present, a Green Sandpiper was on the river and my first Sedge Warbler of the year. Also seen was the first Coot chick, just the one. After Bolton had a walk down the valley to Adwick Washlands to carry out the WeBS count. Its a long way and further than I thought but it gave me the chance to get a good warbler count. Old Moor today - Mediterranean Gull 4 adults + 2 first summers, Bittern 2 booming, Avocet 3, Green Sandpiper 1, Arctic Tern 5, Swift 1.
Wombwell Ings today - Greenshank 1, Little Ringed Plover 6.
Selected WeBS counts - Tufted Duck 229, Gadwall 192, Teal 12, Wigeon 4, Little Grebe 57, Pochard 42, Black headed Gull c5200.
