Edderthorpe and Houghton, Saturday morning

Dawn saw temperatures just below freezing and the Flash shrouded in fog - fortunately it brightened up after an hour or so to reveal;- Shelduck 4, Wigeon 9, Shoveler 8, Avocet 8, Oystercatcher 2, Golden Plover 1, Ringed Plover 2, Greenshank 1, Redshank 8, Snipe 8, Yellow Wagtail 1, Sedge Warbler 1, Lesser Whitethroat 1 and a Long-eared Owl.
A Cuckoo was singing here yesterday. Up to three Mink have been seen recently on the River Dearne - a real problem for potential nesting birds.
