Bolton Ings - 21st October

After the mist had cleared at 10 oclock another glorious day seemed set in although on the cool side at 8c. However it didnt last and the mist soon returned and stayed for rest of day. Quiet again birdwise, the limping Oystercatcher still present and I finally managed to see a Goldcrest on Warbler Way. All the Geese were on the Islands this week and were impossible to count accurately, I counted 17 Pochard but 38 had been present earlier, a good count. Full list - Grey Heron 4, Mute Swan 9, Canada Goose 144, Grey Lag Goose 85, Cormorant 6, Great Crested Grebe 7, Little Grebe 14, Mallard 8, Teal 4, Gadwall 49, Shoveler 11, Tufted Duck 37, Pochard 17, Coot 221, Moorhen 11, Oystercatcher 1, Snipe 2, Lapwing 2, Black Headed Gull 43, Common Gull 10, LBB Gull 3, Herring Gull 1, Kestrel 1, Kingfisher 1, Grey Wagtail 1, Goldcrest 1, Green Woodpecker 2, Great Spotted Woodpecker 1, Jay 5 all moving south.

I called in at Broomhill and counted the Geese in the field, Canadas 204 and Grey Lags 84.
