Carlton Marsh

We are now at the height of the breeding season, and the reserve is heaving with 9 species of warbler including Grasshopper Warbler, Garden Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Reed and Sedge Warbler. Other birds on eggs or feeding young include Jay, Green Woodpecker and Sparrowhawk.

Todays sightings included, HOBBY,  Kingfisher, 2 Red Legged Partridge, Cuckoo singing and Little Owl.(Hibbert/Corrall)

BMBC cut the footpaths around the reserve yesterday making it even better to walk round and the mown grass contrasts very nicely with the wild flowers on show.  If the sun ever shines again we are hoping to see Ringlet, both Large and Small Skipper and Gatekeeper towards the month end.  Dragonflies too have yet to emerge because of the cool conditions.

Yesterday I forgot to mention that the wind measuring mast (c150ft high) has been removed from its position on the south side of the Symphony warehouse, Cudworth Common. One less hazard for birds.
