BB Rarities in Barnsley

Not surprising no change at Old Moor today in the cool dull weather. Bittern still showing in flight over Reedbeds and 3CY Med' Gull on usual island on Wader Scrape. So, with little to write about it seems like a good idea to get up to date with the following:

The British Birds Rarities Committee recently updated their online ‘work in progress’ section which included the following selected information which may be of interest to Barnsley birders:

Now accepted

·             Least Sandpiper, Old Moor RSPB, 26th May 2011.

·             Penduline Tit (2), Wintersett Reservoir, 6th November 2011.

Also accepted, although not surprisingly onto Category E (Species recorded as introductions, human-assisted transportees or escapees from captivity, and whose breeding populations (if any) are thought not to be self-sustaining. Forms no part of the British list) is the following:

· Wood Duck, Wintersett Reservoir 15th - 17th May 2007.

Records still in circulation include the following:

· 'North American Night Heron', Scout Dyke Reservoir, 9th February 2008.
