The Sights and Sounds of the Dearne Valley

Looking at some bird sightings is both disappointing and annoying.

There are certain bird species that in my view are the 'Sights and Sounds' of the Dearne Valley.
One of those species is Whooper Swan. The sight and sound of 20 to 30 of these magnificent birds flying along the valley is something that has been a great loss to the valley in recent years. We now only get them on their return journey back to Iceland.
We need to get them back throughout winter, but until we have the right habitat they will continue to pass us by. The problems surrounding Broomhill Flash need sorting out for a start.

Bitterns, Cetti's and Little Egrets are good birds to have - but these are recent additions.
My Sights and Sounds of the Dearne Valley also include:

Displaying LRPs.
Drumming snipe.
Displaying lapwings and redshanks over fields near Wath Ings.
The sound of calling greenshank in autumn as you walked towards the Wath hide.
The call of green sandpipers during any month of the year.

And I find reading crap like this disappointing and annoying! This is a blog for recent sightings not a political vehicle for the thoughts of Chairman Chris.
